Lindsey will answer all your crochet related questions to help you start, make progress on, and/or complete the projects you've always dreamed of. All skill levels welcome. Short Rows are a technique used to shape knitting, often at the back of the neck or a shoulder of a cardigan or pullover, and in sock knitting. Never again let short rows prevent you from attempting a pattern. You will gain confidence and muscle memory with each class. This great stash-busting series will help you master this useful knitting technique used in shaping and colorwork.
Choose as many sessions as you like to discover your favorite method. Using the Leftie Shawl pattern will allow you to compare techniques, and works as a bandana or a shawl.
Skill level: Advanced Beginner. You should be able to cast on, knit and purl in order to take these classes.

Tired of knitting the same sock heel? Why not pivot and learn the Fish Lips Kiss sock heel. Dawn, The Stitching Coach will guide you through all the steps of this fun and all-purpose heel. Bring your own yarn to practice with or ask the shop for suggestions.
Benefits of this sock heel:
Can be used for cuff-down or toe-up socks
The short rows in this pattern use no wraps, no flaps and no gussets. You will do this without having to count.
This is a very easy heel to work, so you'll want to carry your sock project on vacation, picnics, car rides - wherever this summer takes you!

Bring to class: a small amount (at least 25 grams) of leftover sock, dk, or even worsted weight yarn, along with your preferred needles for knitting socks in a size that will work with your yarn.
Please purchase and bring to class the Fish Kiss Lips Sock Pattern from Ravelry $2.49. You do not have to knit a sock for this class - we will be working from pages 9 &10 of the pattern.

Can't make it to the Shetland Islands for the famous Wool Week festival in September? Neither can we, but you can play armchair traveler and join the annual world-wide Knit-A-Long of the official 2026 Wool Week hat. New England Yarn has the official kits, while supplies last. Students should be comfortable knitting in the round and have some experience with simple colorwork with at least two colors. Let Dawn, The Stitching Coach, guide you through the always distinctive Fair Isle patterns featuring six colors, pattern and chart reading, managing floats and loads of tips and tricks. Zoom option available if you are unable to join us in person.

Locking stitch markers
Before class: Upon completing a gauge swatch do not bind off stitches, but put them on a spare needle with several yards of yarn attached, as we will use this for practicing stitches. Cast on 160 stitches with the color that will be at the lower edge of your jacket. Insert a locking stitch marker into stitch #36 and #125.

Sat. Sept. 19 & 26 9-11am
Learn the basic recipe for knitting mittens in this two-part class. You will learn to measure your hands and combined with a pre-knit gauge swatch make a pair custom fit mittens. Pre-class work requires a 4" square gauge swatch in a worsted weight and US5. To take this class, you must know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. $55.
You will also need:
Pattern: Fittin' Mittens Ravelry Download $5.
One ball of worsted weight yarn (Berroco Lanas is recommended)
Needles preferred for knitting in the round in size recommended on ball band of yarn. (If using Lanas, US sz 7)
Private classes are available for Learn to Knit, and for assistance with a particular technique, pattern or project. Private crochet lessons are also available. We'll try to work with your schedule, scheduling outside of normal store hours when possible.
Please register at least one week prior to scheduled class. Registration is not complete until payment is received.
If we have less than 3 students registered for a group class you will be offered the option of a refund or you may take the class at the teacher's private class rate.
Refunds will be not be given after the registration deadline unless our class minimum is reached.
If a class is canceled due to dangerous weather conditions we will reschedule the class. If we cancel a class for any other reason you will receive a full refund.
