Find out how to read your knitting, recognize mistakes and fix them. You will learn how to pick up dropped stitches and more. Before class please make two swatches, matching appropriate needle to the yarn you will be using. Cast on the number of stitches that will get you a 4” swatch (usually found on the yarn ball band). One swatch should be made in garter stitch (knit every row), and one in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row, repeat these two rows). Work until each swatch about 2”. Do not bind off – leave these stitches on needle. $35.

Are you chicken when it comes to short rows? Make yourself or someone you love an Emotional Support Chicken and conquer your fear at the same time. In this class you will get tips on how to follow this pattern and learn how to knit the simplest short rows of all. You will learn the 3-needle bind off and the cable cast on, and get hints to make your chicken easier to knit.
You can take this class if you can cast on, bind off, and do the knit stitch.
$55.00 plus materials for two 2-hour classes
You will also need: US 6 or 7 needles* (straight or circular—we will be knitting flat), plus one needle to be used for 3-needle bind off 200 yards washable worsted weight yarn plus scrap yarn if desired (we used Plymouth Encore) removable stitch markers, regular stitch markers, 1 stitch holder, yarn needle.
In addition you will also need the following which will have to be purchased elsewhere: fiberfill to stuff the chicken, smooth stones (like those found in a floral department), and an old sock or nylon stocking to hold the stones inside of your chicken and weight it down.
Homework to be completed before first class:
Read the pattern through and bring a list of questions with you. Make two swatches by casting on 15 stitches and working in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row) for 16 rows. Do not bind off. You may use either the US 6 or 7 needles to make these swatches. This will help you decide which size to use for your chicken. The swatches will be used to practice picking up stitches and joining with a 3-needle bind off.
If you choose to make your chicken in more than one color, bring scrap yarn in colors of your choice.
